Busy Weekend!

Everyone is sold! What a bittersweet day! We are excited for everyone getting the puppies, but we are sure going to miss them. We are keeping one of the girls for ourselves (Faith -who will probably be getting a new name).

Thanks for looking and please call if you want to be on a waiting list.

Puppies are Six Weeks old!

The puppies are 6 weeks old yesterday so I thought I would post their 6 week portraits! They are almost completely weaned and eating puppy food. They LOVE to play and Daisy (the mom) has been playing with them quite a bit. Every evening we bring them out of their play pen and play with Daisy & them on our bedroom floor. They are sure great entertainment!

More Puppy Information

The puppies turned 4 weeks old yesterday! They will be ready for their new homes on February 19th when they are 8 weeks old. They are $300.00 and that will include their first puppy shots and de-worming medicine. "Alfie" the first born boy has been spoken for and gets to go to Klyde's (the dad's) house to live! They had such a hard time deciding and Klyde's mom and I joked that maybe we would just each keep 5 of them!

We actually had a vet stop by today (he is a dad of our 18 year old's friend) to see the puppies and he was very impressed with the pups. He said that they were well socialized, very healthy, good sizes and that Daisy looked very healthy, too! He also talked about how much he liked Bassett Hounds. It was good to hear from a professional!

More Bassett Photos

I posted puppy photos of their 3.5 week old portraits. They have started eating puppy chow that is ground and blended with some puppy formula. Wow, do they make a MESS! :) Daisy does a good job of cleaning the mess and the messy puppies after they finish, but she can only do so much! The puppies have already had 2 baths to wash off the mess.

Last night we moved the whelping box into the office that is hooked to our bedroom and added a fence around the outside of the box. Now they have their sleeping area in the box and a potty area and separate eating area outside the box. They seem to like it and for the most part go to the bathroom in the designated area on newspapers.

Tomorrow they will be 4 weeks old....time sure flies, both with puppies and kids!

Let me know if you have any questions about the puppies! I will continue to update with photos and info.

Bassett Hound Puppies Born on Christmas Day!

Daisy Mae and Klyde had 10 Bassett Hound Puppies on CHRISTMAS DAY! They were all healthy (no stillborns and no delays in breathing), all about the same weight, with the first one being born at 8:20 am and the tenth one at 3:30 pm. Five girls and Five boys!

These puppies are being raised and cared for in our home (in the master bedroom, actually!). Our household has four children ranging in age from 18 yrs old to 12 years old. Daisy (the mom) is one of three dogs and two outdoor cats. She gets along with all other animals and especially likes to play with one of our cats. Daisy is a purebred, papered Basset Hound, 3.5 years old and this is her first litter. She has been a great mom and has been very tolerant of people holding and handling her pups. Our 16 year old daughter was the chief "midwife" throughout the delivery and spent much of Christmas day in the whelping box with her - even opening some of her gifts in the box.

Klyde, the dad, is purebred, with no papers, and is 9 years old. Both parents have excellent dispositions and are true family dogs. Klyde lives nearby in a family with 2 other dogs, horses and a burro. He is a very sweet dog who was rescued from a puppy mill in California which is why he doesn't have his papers.

Daisy has been able to feed all the puppies just fine and they are all gaining at a good pace. For the first two weeks, we weighed them daily to make sure that all were gaining at the same rate and to make sure that they got equal time nursing.
